Tommy of Finland: Pleasure Park - video installation - ArtCenter, Pasadena, CA, 2023
Description: As part of my ongoing rainbow series, in this installation I was interested in deconstructing and resignifying the homosexual male gaze—from a nonbinary, queer perspective. Meaning, can bodies still be desired when they don’t perform or behave in a hyper-sexualized way? Thinking of Judy Chicago’s seminal feminist work, Womanhouse, this body of work continues the feminist discourse by queering an already marginalized space, how do you queer the gay? How does a they/them fit in the he/him object of desire? These are questions that I am interested in addressing with my rainbow series.
